The subject of sheltering in place has become increasingly important to architects and engineers, owners, operators, risk managers and individuals responsible for ensuring occupant safety in new and existing buildings, from both the public and private sectors. This topic is multi-disciplinary in nature, as both operational issues and design issues for each of the aspects of buildings essential to sheltering in place need to be addressed. Over two days, leading experts will help us examine:
- Threat assessment
- Emergency response plans
- Life safety and long-term support
- Architecture
- Structure
- Building envelope
- Utilities and lifelines
- HVAC
- Fire protection
In order to bring to the symposium the latest and best information on the topic, AEI has enlisted the cooperation of key organizations active in this area: FEMA, The Infrastructure Security Partnership (TISP), and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). This has made it possible to assemble an impressive group of leading experts who will not only make presentations on the topics listed in the symposium program, but will also lead discussions during the periods of interactive exchange which are expected to take place throughout the event and which will provide everyone with an opportunity to participate and learn.
The symposium will be held at the Baltimore Engineers Club located at the historic Garrett-Jacobs Mansion, an ideal setting next to a number of prestigious landmarks in the heart of Baltimore.
We look forward to seeing you!
Sincerely,
Mohammed Ettouney, Ph.D., P.E., F.AEI Principal, Weidlinger Associates, Inc Symposium Co-Chair |
Charles A. Meyer, P.E., F.ACEC President, Henry Adams, LLC Symposium Co-Chair |
