ASCE Testifies on Bridge SafetyOn Sept. 5, ASCE member Andy Herrmann, P.E., F.ASCE, a managing partner and bridge engineer at Hardesty and Hanover in New York, testified before the full House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on bridge safety and conditions. The hearing was held in response to the collapse of the I-35 W Bridge in Minneapolis last month. Among panelists that included administration officials, state and local elected officials, and other engineers, Herrmann represented ASCE and affirmed the society’s support of committee chairman Jim Oberstar’s National Highway System Bridge Reconstruction Initiative. Chairman Oberstar’s new bill would create a dedicated trust fund for three years to repair and rehabilitate structurally deficient bridges. To read the full testimony, click here. |
