Global Principles for Professional Conduct

ASCE is taking steps to elevate standards to curb corrupt practices around the world. Corruption in the global construction industry is a huge economic burden estimated to approach $500 billion dollars annually. It occurs in every country no matter the form of government, the level of development, or geographic location. ASCE is raising awareness of the real costs of corruption by being a catalyst for cooperation and action by engineers worldwide. ASCE has asked individual engineers around the world to sign An Engineer's Charter: Combating Corruption in Engineering and Construction, and has promoted the charter in various locations including Cairo, Warsaw, Rome, Latin America, Asia and Puerto Rico. This effort to tackle corruption is an important way for the world's engineering community to encourage sustainable development and help improve the welfare and quality of life for populations around the globe.

Anti-Corruption Film 'Ethicana' Debuts

at the 2008 ASCE Annual Conference

While in Pittsburgh, ASCE members attended the premier of a dramatic film intended as a powerful exercise in how to not only keep from falling prey to corruption in the global construction and engineering industries, but also have the ethical courage to expose it. "Ethicana" is the centerpiece of the Global Anti-Corruption Education and Training (ACET) Initiative, of which ASCE is a cooperating agency. After watching the 41-minute film, members and ACET panel members discussed its message and its potential to make a difference.

See highlights of "Ethicana" and find out more about the Global ACET Initiative here.
