Bangkok, with a population of about 6 million, is the capital and primary city of Thailand, beautifully located on the banks of Chao Phraya River near the Gulf of Thailand. It is well connected globally by all major international airlines through its newest Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The city’s wealth of cultural sites makes it one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations.
Bangkok is also referred as “Venice of the East” due to the presence of its interconnected canals and water ways within the city. Continuously expanding City of Bangkok has always provided the engineering community a multitude of environmental and water resource challenges. The climate in Bangkok during December and January is pleasant with average day time temperature of about 20 degrees Celsius or 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Northern Thailand is generally cooler than Bangkok. Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon district, Thon Buri and Victory Monument are most famous tourist destinations. Bangkok with a rich cultural history and special attention to tourism has a number of tourist destinations, including Phra Nakhon district, Thon Buri and Victory Monument, Grand Palace, Chakri Mahaprasat Hall, Wat Pho, and floating market.

Bangkok is very well connected by road, rail and airlines with the rest of Thailand. Bangkok would be an excellent base for visiting other tourist destinations such as the famous Pattaya beach, Phuket island - Pearl of the Andaman Sea, and Chiang Mai - the ancient city of northern Thailand among others.
