The Committee on Public Transportation of the Transportation & Development Institute (T&DI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) invites you to submit papers for presentation at the ASCE’s Third International Conference on Urban Public Transportation Systems (ICUTS) being held on November 17 - 20, 2013 in Paris, France. This Conference will offer a forum for civil engineers seeking to address civil engineering applications associated with all modes of public transportation, including bus and rail. The civil engineering profession, through its many sub-disciplines, provides a vast array of specialized knowledge toward the science of safe and efficient movement of people and goods. Civil engineers throughout the world take on many important roles in support of the public transportation industry. The conference will have four parallel tracks covering the following topics:
- Planning, environment, and finance: planning tools, environmental and sustainability issues, and innovative financing mechanisms for planning, operations, and construction
- Operations & maintenance of systems infrastructure: security, safety, and efficiency
- Design and construction of infrastructure: bus (bus rapid transit, exclusive bus lanes, etc.) and rail systems (underground, elevated, and surface alignments), stations, etc.
- Innovative systems and practices: leading edge vehicle, infrastructure, and propulsion systems
Submissions need to reflect the challenges that civil engineering professionals are faced with in planning, designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining public transportation infrastructure and systems. In addition, the presentations and papers should address the latest civil engineering advancements, yet be tempered with the reality of limited scopes and budgets.
If you are interested in presenting an applied or expository presentation or paper in any of the four parallel tracks, please prepare and submit a maximum 250 word abstract electronically at http://submissions.miracd.com/ASCE/icuts2012. Abstracts must be submitted using Word or Word Perfect and must be in English. The program committee welcomes more than one paper from a proposed speaker. Also, if someone wants to propose an entire session (3 – 4 speakers) they may submit a session proposal through the website noted above. The session proposal must include an abstract of no more than 250 words for each presentation or paper and note which track the session is being proposed for. Session proposals will be evaluated at the same time as the abstracts for individual presentations/papers. In addition, the program committee welcomes any suggestions for additional special session topics or speakers. If you have additional ideas, please contact: Walter Kulyk, the Conference Chair, at (Walter.Kulyk@dot.gov); or Andrea Baker at abaker@asce.org.
