Special Events

The TCLEE 2009 conference will feature an icebreaker reception, refreshment breaks, and keynote speaker luncheon, field trips to tour major utility and transportation projects in the San Francisco Bay area, and workshops on topics of relevance to the conference theme.  Full conference registration fees will cover session attendance, the proceedings, an icebreaker reception, refreshment breaks, and luncheon with speaker.  The field trips and workshops will be available to conference attendees at an additional modest cost that will cover their expenses.

Field Trips (click here for more information)

To attract attendees to this conference, full-day and/or half-day field trips will be conducted by utility and transportation lifeline agencies throughout the Bay Area.  These trips will be held during the day before the conference (June 28) and possibly during the afternoon after the conference (July 1) as well. In keeping with the overall conference theme, these field trips will enable attendees to observe and discuss current practices and ongoing projects for reducing risks to the various types of lifelines from earthquakes, other natural hazards, and man-made hazards.

Workshops (click here for more information)

Pre-conference workshops are being considered.  Possible workshop topics that are currently being discussed include: (a) acceptable risks to lifelines subjected to natural and man-made hazards, presented by the ASCE Council on Disaster Risk Management; and (b) findings from an Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) field exercise scheduled for early 2009 that will focus on risks from and response to a Magnitude 7 earthquake along the Hayward Fault, presented by coordinators of the exercise.
