Millennium Park is a must-see Chicago attraction and it is free to all visitors. To create the park, the city converted almost 25 acres of unused rail yards, park space, and parking lots. The park opened in 2004, and now offers festivals to the public amidst beautiful gardens, art, and architecture.
Skydeck Chicago in the Willis Tower
The Willis Tower, formerly Sears Tower, is the tallest building in the western hemisphere and the eighth tallest in the world. Take the elevator up to the 103rd floor to visit the Skydeck. You can step onto one of the four glass balconies and view not only out in-front of you, but if you are brave enough, straight below! To secure visitors, each ledge of the Skydeck is comprised of three layers of half-inch thick glass laminated into one seamless unit.
Touted at the best view in Chicago, the Hancock Observatory offers 360 degree views of the city. Visitors enter the observatory on the 94th floor, after a short 40 second ride in one of the fastest elevators in North America. The Observatory offers a self-guided multi-media tour and telescopes so you can learn more about Chicago during your visit.
The Lincoln Park Zoo is open, and free to the public, 365-days a year. Opened in 1868, the 35-acre zoo is located in the heart of Chicago and houses 1200 animals, representing 230 species.
The Cultural Center offers a wide array of free events: art exhibitions and events; film; lectures and discussions; music; theater and dance; and family programs.
Chicago is also home to many sports teams, including the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago Blackhawks.
