UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT PAPER CONTEST

To raise student awareness in this field, the ASCE/COPRI Ports 2010 Conference will have its first student paper contest awards on Sunday afternoon, April 25, 2010.   The ten (10) best papers will be selected for presentation at the conference, with prizes for the first, second and third place.  Additionally, the top ten authors will receive admission to the Ports Conference technical sessions and events.

Topics should be in the general field of COPRI as outlined at www.coprinstitute.org, including coastal, environmental, general, civil, geotechnical, ocean, structural, and waterborne transportation engineering.   Papers are due December 1, 2009, with a page limit of 8 pages (12-point font).  Selection of the 10 best papers will be made by February 1, 2010.

STUDENT POSTER SESSION

Entries are encouraged for the student poster session. The subjects must be the same as the general topics listed for the conference, including: coastal, environmental, general, civil, geotechnical, ocean, structural, and water-borne transportation engineering.  Please visit the conference website for additional guidelines.

Please submit abstracts by December 1, 2009. Selection will be completed by February 1, 2010.  Successful authors will be asked to bring their posters to the Ports Conference, and will have a half day scheduled on Tuesday morning, April 27, 2010 to explain their posters to attendees.  Prizes will be awarded to the top three authors along with complimentary admission to the conference sessions.

For both the student paper and poster competitions, please e-mail abstracts to copri@asce.org. Please contact COPRI Coordinator Jennifer Moulton at jmoulton@asce.org no later than 12/08/2009 if you haven’t received confirmation that your abstract was received.

STUDENT JOB FAIR/MENTORING

A student job fair is planned for Tuesday afternoon, April 27, 2009 at Ports 2010.  Attend for an opportunity to learn of potential jobs, and meet and be mentored by active ASCE/COPRI professionals, during a 3-hour individual question/answer period, with “speed dating” methods to meet as many engineers as possible.  This event is free, and open to all university students.
