Young Professionals
We look forward to your participation in the numerous Student and Young Professional (YP) activities that are planned for Ports 2010! Noteworthy events include:
- Young Professionals’ Happy Hour: 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., April 25 (Sunday)
- Student Paper Competition: 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., April 25 (Sunday)
- Student Poster Session: 10 a.m. -12:00 p.m., April 27 (Tuesday)
- Job Fair– 1:00 p.m. – 4 p.m., April 27, 2010 (Tuesday)
YOUNG PROFESSIONALS’ HAPPY HOUR
Young professionals age 40 and under are encouraged to “meet and mingle” on Sunday evening before the conference Ice Breaker Reception! This happy hour will provide a relaxed social forum for young professionals to network with peers, as well as COPRI and PIANC USA leadership. Don’t forget to bring plenty of business cards!
UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT PAPER CONTEST
To raise student awareness in this field, the ASCE/COPRI Ports 2010 Conference will have its first student paper contest awards on Sunday afternoon, April 25, 2010. The ten (10) best papers will be selected for presentation at the conference, with prizes for the first, second and third place. Additionally, the top ten authors will receive admission to the Ports Conference technical sessions and events.
Topics should be in the general field of COPRI as outlined at www.coprinstitute.org including coastal, environmental, general, civil, geotechnical, ocean, structural, and waterborne transportation engineering. Papers are due December 1, 2009, with a page limit of 8 pages (12 font). The selection of the ten (10) best papers will be made by February 1, 2010.

STUDENT POSTER SESSION
Entries are encouraged for the student poster session, a great opportunity for students to report their research and discuss it with conference attendees. Posters should report on research that examines the general topics listed for the conference, including: coastal, environmental, general, civil, geotechnical, ocean, structural, and water-borne transportation engineering. Abstracts will be reviewed for scientific merit.
Please submit abstracts by December 1, 2009 and the selection will be completed by January 15, 2010. Successful authors will be asked to bring their posters to the Ports Conference, and will have a half day scheduled on Tuesday morning, April 27, 2010 to explain their posters to attendees. Prizes will be awarded to the top three authors along with a one-day complimentary admission to the conference.

JOB FAIR
A job fair is planned for Tuesday afternoon, April 27, 2009 at Ports 2010. Attend for an opportunity to learn about potential jobs, and meet and be mentored by active port and harbor industry professionals, during a 3-hour individual question/answer period, with “speed dating” methods to meet as many engineers as possible.
