A TOUR OF BEAUTIFUL CALLAWAY GARDENS

 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Callaway Gardens

Travel to an unforgettable destination.  Callaway Gardens is 2,500 acres of natural woodlands, cool lakes, tranquil gardens and winding trails nestled in the rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.  Its mission is to preserve the region's natural beauty and native plant life.

Getting there is half the fun.  We drive through the scenic countryside of Georgia toward the little town of Pine Mountain.  The first stop is the getaway home of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the Little White House, which has been preserved as he left it with a separate museum depicting the life he led there.  It is now a part of the Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation.  Historically a facility for the treatment of polio, today the institute is a national leader in the research of muscle diseases and their cure.

Once at Callaway, natural wonders will amaze and delight.  You will tour the John A. Sibley Horticultural Center, where something is always in bloom.  The Center is a unique garden and greenhouse complex ten years in the making.  The garden/greenhouse encompasses five acres of native and exotic plants, within its tropical conservatory, rock wall garden, sculpture garden, fern grotto, floral conservatory and outdoor garden.  An exhilarating 22-foot indoor waterfall, a bronze sculpture called “Partners in Time" and spectacular seasonal displays will make this visit special.

Next, we will visit the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center, the largest free-flight, glass-enclosed conservatory in North America.  Tropical plants, birds, including hummingbirds and 50 different species of tropical butterflies flutter freely through the air.   This tour has something for everyone, history, natural beauty and charm of West Georgia’s easy pace.

Tickets are $82.00 per person and include a wonderful buffet luncheon filled with Southern style goodies. Children (6 – 12) tickets are $73.00 per person.  Any guest under the age of 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Maximum of 50 guests

GUEST PROGRAM - A TASTE OF PEACH - ATLANTA HISTORY CENTER AND SWAN COACH HOUSE

9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Touch of Peach

According to legend, in the 1850’s, Buckhead was a spot on a rugged country trail where settlers and Indians sometimes crossed paths.  A gentleman by the name of Irby had a store in the area and being quite proud of a large buck he shot, Irby nailed the head to the side of his store.  Thereafter, locals said “I’ll meet you at the buck head”…and Buckhead was born.

Although the head is gone, Atlantans are still saying “I’ll meet you in Buckhead” because it is Atlanta’s premier residential and shopping district.  There are hundreds of beautiful homes and scores of interesting restaurants and shops. You will get a taste of the good life on this tour as we visit some of the best it has to offer.

Stops include the Atlanta History Center, the regal Swan Coach House, the Tullie Smith House and the Atlanta History Museum.  We will stop at Cyclorama, where music will transport us to The Battle of Atlanta, a major turning point in the Civil War.  See the world’s largest circular painting at 42’ height and 358’ in circumference that shows in moving detail Atlanta’s role in this historic conflict.  We will travel down “The Big Peach”, aka Peachtree Street, past the Fabulous Fox Theater, the Woodruff Arts Center and the contemporary High Museum of Art. See the exclusive Northside, one of Atlanta’s prime residential districts.  Then it’s off to the world headquarters of Coca-Cola.

Tickets are $89 per person and include a Southern lunch at the Swan Coach House.  Children (4-12) are $85 per person.  Any guest under the age of 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Maximum of 50 guests
