Technical Tour #1: San Francisco LID Sites
From Gray to Green - LID retrofit sites along a transect of increasing urbanization.
Following lunch on your own, participants will board a bus at the host hotel with stops at LID sites along a transect of increasing urbanization and density, with presentations by project designers and/or engineers at each stop.
The tour will begin at the recently-retrofitted Brisbane City Hall, which features LID measures including swales and bioretention cells. It will continue at sites including an under-construction LID street retrofit on Leland Avenue - the main neighborhood street in San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley neighborhood - before finishing at Mint Plaza in downtown San Francisco, just steps from the old U.S. Mint, the City’s famous Blue Bottle Coffee cafe, and San Francisco’s Union Square shopping district. Participants will have the option to re-board the bus for transportation back to the host hotel, returning by about 5:00 p.m., or to remain downtown for shopping or dinner and take BART or a cab back on their own.

Technical Tour #2: South Bay LID Sites
Silicon Valley LID - An exploration of LID in a variety of land uses, including a case study in community outreach/education through community center design.
Following lunch on your own, participants will board a bus at the host hotel with stops at LID sites in a variety of land uses, with presentations by project designers and/or engineers at each stop. The stops will feature exploration of and a presentation at the LEED Silver Roosevelt Community Center in San Jose, where LID has been incorporated into the project both generally and interpreted through art installations; “Modern Ice,” a mid-density residential development; and Hampton Park, a residential townhouse project. Participants will return to the host hotel by bus by about 5:00 p.m.

What should I wear for the tours?
Participants should wear comfortable closed-toe shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather on the day of the tour. Mid-April weather in the San Francisco Bay Area can feature warm or cool sunny days, but may also bring rain and temperatures in the 50s (10-15 C). Please remember to bring sunscreen, water, and a camera!
