Transportation

Please note that the conference organizers will not arrange taxi service from airport to hotels or IIT Madras campus; and from hotels or campus to airport. However, we will provide transportation for all three days from all three hotels to campus and back to attend the conference.

 

Travel from Airport to Hotels or IIT Madras Campus:

  1. Please take "Aviation Express" PRE-PAID TAXI SERVICE located at the exit door of the airport. A banner "EWRI IITM 2010" will be displayed at their counter to get your attention. This travel agency is authorized by the Airport Authority for ground transport at the Chennai airport (both International and Domestic terminals).
  2. The cost is 400 Indian rupees for this travel. This is same for any three hotels or IIT Madras Campus.  Please note that you should pay 400 rupees at the airport counter in advance before boarding the taxi.
  3. Aviation Express (AE) is a prepaid taxi service, operating from the Chennai airport. They run the prepaid taxi service from the airport to the city and also the pickup service from any point to the airport. This facility is available round the clock. Phone numbers for booking counter at the International Terminal are: (91) – 044 - 22564442; 22560693 and 22560694.  
  4. The booking process is very simple and advance reservations at the airport are NOT REQUIRED. Once the booking is complete, a porter will escort you to the nearest parked vehicle and load the luggage. Most vehicles are air conditioned and comfortable.  It is worth mentioning that AE has got parking lots very close to the arrival area, so there’s no need to walk long distances. Please note that tipping is not a common practice in India.

 

Travel from Hotels or IIT Madras Campus to Airport:

 

  1. Hotel reception desk will help you arrange a taxi from hotel to airport. Please contact the reception desk 1 day ahead of time prior to your departure.
  2. The cost will be about 400 Indian rupees for this travel. This will be same from any three hotels or IIT Madras Campus to airport.

 

Travel from Hotels to IIT Madras Campus for Attending Conference:

  1. Transportation from all the three hotels to IIT Madras Campus and back to the three hotels during three conference days (5th, 6th and 7th January 2010) will be provided at NO COST to you and your spouse/guest.
  2. The bus schedule will be available at the hotel lobby and at the reception desk.

 

Travel from IIT Madras Campus to Chennai City:

  1. Transportation from IIT Madras Campus to Chennai city will be available via private taxi during three conference days (5th, 6th and 7th January 2010). You will be responsible for THIS TRAVEL COST.
  2. Please note that taxis may not be available immediately within the campus to go to the City. You may need to request (at least one hour) in advance for a taxi service at the conference desk.
