On behalf of the entire Local Organizing Committee and IAHR council members, we take great pleasure in inviting you to the 33rd International Association of Hydraulic Engineering & Research (IAHR) Biennial Congress, August 9-14, 2009. The 33rd IAHR Congress is an important international industry event that you will not want to miss! Themed “Water Engineering for a Sustainable Environment,” this Congress focuses on the central roles of hydraulic engineering and hydroinformatics in water engineering for a sustainable environment, and how these roles link to broader aspects of environment sustainability in watershed and coastal settings.
The North American hydraulics community, which is extensively represented in IAHR’s membership (some 15-20% of the total), looks forward to once again welcoming international colleagues to an IAHR Congress at an attractive North American location. The last time North America hosted the IAHR Biennial Congress was in 1997 with San Francisco as the venue. Well received, that Congress attracted some 1,000 registrants.
Several organizations with broad representation in the North American water engineering community—namely EWRI-ASCE, CSCE, UBC, University of Wyoming, and COPRI-ASCE —are collaborating with IAHR to organize this 33RD IAHR Congress and the co-located 19TH Canadian Hydrotechnical Conference. We certainly look forward to your joining us and actively participating in this Congress in Vancouver, aptly celebrated for its unique geography and spectacular natural environment that you also don’t want to miss.
