Destination & Travel

Explore Boston - Cradle of Liberty!

Boston’s place in American history makes for a fascinating visit. There are so many things to see and do! You can plan a walking tour along the 2.5 mile Freedom Trail to 16 sites and structures of historic importance in Boston and Charlestown. In Charlestown, you can visit the Bunker Hill Monument, the Charleston Navy Yard, and the USS Constitution--the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world. In Boston proper, you can see the results of the “Big Dig” – 14 years and $14.6 billion later, done!  Visit the Boston Science Museum or the New England Aquarium near Long Wharf, where sightseeing boats launch.  Catch a Red Sox game at Fenway Park, which has welcomed baseball fans since 1912. Enjoy a real Italian meal in Little Italy.  Take home souvenirs from Faneuil Hall Market Place!  And take home many great memories, too!

Phone Calls from the United States

Phone calls from hotel rooms can be very expensive, especially calls to places outside of the US. We recommend one of the following options:

  • There is no charge for calls that are received, but high charges are assessed for initiating calls.
  • Use a pre-paid phone card. These are available at many locations, including many airports, grocery stores, discount department stores, convenience stores and at some hotels. They are also available through many on-line sites.
  • Use your personal or corporate telephone charge card (if you have one).

ASCE does not recommend any particular brand or type of card, but only provides this information for your convenience.

Weather

Autumn is the most popular season to visit Massachusetts. The state’s brilliant autumn foliage (which lasts from September through the end of October) is the primary reason to visit during this time of year. The foliage peaks at different times in different regions. Northern regions generally peak early in the season, with the foliage in the south in full force towards the middle of October. The temperature can range from 55-75 degrees during the day, while nights can drop to around 45 degrees. In Autumn the region is often treated to an “Indian Summer.” During this time, the temperature rises several degrees and for a few weeks it almost feels as if summer has returned. However, sweaters and
jackets are recommended throughout the season.
