Student Information
Student attendees at the World Environmental & Water Resources Congress 2012 are encouraged to participate in student activities and competitions in Albuquerque. The EWRI Congress is an event that can be equally beneficial to experienced professionals and civil engineering students as well. This event offers opportunities for students and younger members to participate, network, and enjoy themselves.
Opportunities for students at the Congress include:
-
Oklahoma State University - Woolpert Scholars Session on Urban Stormwater Management
-
Student Paper and Poster Presentation
-
Student Luncheon
-
Student Competitions (see below)
-
Career Opportunities After College Panel Discussion
Oklahoma State University - Woolpert Scholars Session on Urban Stormwater Management
The OSU - Woolpert partnership has increased opportunities for engineering students to work on real world problems. Students in Biosystems Engineering, focused on urban water resources issues, are selected from a list of applicants by a joint OSU - Woolpert committee. Students develop a final report, present to OSU colleagues, and travel under Woolpert funding to a national professional meeting to present the results: the EWRI Congress.
For questions regarding the program, please contact the session organizer, Billy Barfield, at billy.barfield@okstate.edu.

Currently all undergraduate civil engineering programs are required to include a "capstone" design experience, and schools are strongly urged to require their students to work in teams. Up to four (4) finalist design teams will be selected to compete at the EWRI Congress. Each student design team will orally present their project to a panel of industry judges during a special session at the conference. Each team will receive up to $1000 for travel reimbursement and a team plaque. Click here to see a competition flyer.
To enter, send a four page project description and include the Faculty Advisor's recommendation to Dr. Monica Palomo, email mpalomo@csupomona.edu by March 1, 2012.
Student & Younger Member Poster Session
Students and Young Professionals wishing to present their research and projects at the EWRI Congress 2012 are also encouraged to submit their abstracts for consideration in the Student & Younger Member Poster Session. In order to feature presentations on behalf of some of the bright, young minds at the Congress, SANPAC has encouraged the addition of this poster sessions to further enhance the participation of young engineers in Albuquerque. Abstracts should be submitted through the MIRA Paper Management system, similarly to the normal submission process.
Submissions should be received by September 5, 2011. For any questions, please contact Session Chair Sudarshan Kurwadkar at kurwadkar@tarleton.edu.
