Getting Water Data with the CUAHSI Hydrologic Information System

PRESENTERS:
David R. Maidment, Ph.D., Professor, Tim Whiteaker, Research Associate, University of Texas, Austin, TX

This two-part course provides hands-on training in using the CUAHSI Hydrologic Information System to find, access, and analyze water observation data. Please bring your own Windows laptop with wireless capabilities. You will receive an email two weeks prior to the workshop with instructions on how to install free CUAHSI software that we will use in the course.

Introduction to the CUAHSI Hydrologic Information System

The CUAHSI Hydrologic Information System (CUAHSI-HIS) provides standards, services, and software for better access to online water data such as streamflow from the U.S. Geological Survey, so that you can spend less time searching for data and more time on your analysis. This half-day course will introduce you to CUAHSI-HIS and teach you how to access water data using freely available CUAHSI-HIS software. Hands-on training will be provided in Excel as well as a standalone GIS program called HydroDesktop which CUAHSI-HIS has developed.

Advanced HydroDesktop (CANCELLED)

This half-day course provides hands-on training in using advanced capabilities of HydroDesktop to analyze water data. This is for users who really want to get into the details of HydroDesktop. Through demonstration, you will also learn how power users can incorporate the same CUAHSI-HIS Web services that HydroDesktop uses into their own custom applications. The course will wrap up with a brief presentation summarizing CUAHSI-HIS from both a data consumer's and data publisher's perspective, leaving you with the knowledge you need to continue working with CUAHSI-HIS and with a message that you can share with others in your organization.
