JULIO F. DAVALOS, Ph.D.

Julio F. Davalos holds degrees in Civil Engineering, Mechanics, and Construction Management, and a PhD in Structural Mechanics from Virginia Tech. His expertise is in structural mechanics and engineering, and his research work includes theoretical and experimental studies on advanced materials and systems, including fiber-reinforced polymer and wood composites, and high-performance concrete.  His work is directed to civil infrastructure rehabilitation and security, with particular emphasis on highway bridges and hardening of structures.

He is the Director of the Center for Transportation Security and Infrastructure Innovations, leading a multidisciplinary team of faculty in Engineering and Sciences in the state of West Virginia. The Center funding on several large-scale projects is approximately $6 million annually.

He is also involved in the development of innovative teaching methods and technologies. His publications record includes several design and teaching manuals, book chapters, expert testimonies, and about 120 journal papers and 170 conference papers.  He has been honored with more than 60 teaching and research awards, including Professor of the Year in the State of West Virginia – USA.
