Welcome

We invite you to come to Atlanta for the 2006 T&DI Specialty Conference “Context Sensitive Solutions in Practice: What You Need to Know.”

As more state DOTs require that projects are developed using context sensitive solutions, there is a growing need for practitioners who can guide a project through all development stages—planning, public involvement and environment and design.

This conference is specifically designed to train the transportation practitioner in the latest principles, tools and techniques of Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS).  You will hear from industry leaders on where CSS is now and what the future holds for CSS.  A CSS Status Report from AASHTO, FHWA and APWA sets the stage and speakers from state DOTs that have fully implemented CSS will speak to their challenges and successes.  Projects will be presented in eight concurrent breakout sessions, so that you can find the session that best fits the work you do today.  You will discuss real projects that used CSS techniques and learn what worked and what didn’t.  Cutting-edge tools and techniques for engaging the community, communication, selecting alternatives and setting design parameters will be presented.  A second set of breakout sessions will allow you to see how applying these tools can enhance your project development process.

Put yourself in the driver’s seat as Dr. Kathleen Harder presents the latest research in using visualization and experimentation in CSD.  Relax and see CSS first hand with an evening tour of the Fifth Street Pedestrian Bridge that connects Georgia Tech’s core campus with its new Technology Square development in Midtown.  Its design promises a new standard of excellence for GDOT projects in the revitalized Midtown Atlanta.

To help you remain current with continuing education requirements for licensure you will be able to earn up to 8.5 PDHs

On behalf of the entire Steering Committee, we invite you to join us as we learn together and advance the practice of CSS.

Sincerely,

otto
