Leonard

Keynote Address: Blaine D. Leonard, P.E., D.GE, F.ASCE, ASCE 2010 President

You won’t want to miss this special gala event featuring a presentation by ASCE 2010 President Blaine Leonard on "Sustainable Infrastructure: Moving into the Future."

In recent decades, the physical infrastructure that forms the basis of America's social and economic fabric has been allowed to decline into alarming disrepair. The engineering community must step forward with new solutions that recognize and better communicate realistic risks, employ integrated systems approaches that rise above piecemeal solutions, provide sound leadership and management in the decision-making process, and adapt design criteria and operational practice to the dynamic conditions and increasing demands in our changing world.

Leonard

Special Guest: Congressman James L. Oberstar, Chairman, House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure

Congressman James L. Oberstar has served on what is now known as the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure since 1975, and has worked tirelessly to improve safety and efficiency for the traveling public. Now the Committee’s Chairman, he is widely regarded as the singular expert in transportation policy on Capitol Hill.

Rep. Oberstar was a key architect of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act, also known as SAFETEA-LU, as well as most of the other major public infrastructure bills to clear Congress over the last three decades.

In the 111th Congress, Rep. Oberstar has been a key player in the movement for increased investment in our national infrastructure and is the architect of a new, multi-year, surface transportation authorization bill now pending in Congress.
