The Student Tours will take you to local civil engineering projects, which could include
construction of a new skyscraper, seeing the inner workings of one of Chicago’s
moveable bridges, and the new lock control house on the Chicago River. Additional
information will be available on the web site later this summer.
The Student Tour will provide all students the opportunity to interact with other student
members as well as career professionals. The program will begin following
the ASCE Business Meeting in the morning. Participants will begin by joining the
Younger Member Leadership Symposium and their topic “Leadership Development
—It's My Responsibility”. This will include, identifying leadership traits, identifying
technical expertise, and developing communication skills (written and verbal).
Students are encouraged to come early and attend the Friday sessions on “Surviving the Future”.

This year’s Mead theme asks Younger Members the question “Is it ethical to transfer risk of a construction project solely to the Contractor indemnifying the Design Engineer and Owner?” The National Younger Member winner will present his/her paper at this session.
