Order of the Engineer Ceremony

7:30 – 8:00 a.m.

ASCE 2009 President D. Wayne Klotz, P.E., D.WRE, F.ASCE, ASCE 2010 President Blaine D. Leonard, P.E., D.GE, F.ASCE, and ASCE Executive Director Patrick J. Natale, P.E., F.ASCE invite you to participate in the Order of the Engineer Ceremony.  The Order of the Engineer was initiated in the United States to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer—a stainless steel ring. Over 3,500 engineers have participated in ASCE led Ring Ceremonies since the summer of 2003.  Participants will take the Obligation of the Engineer and receive a certificate and stainless steel ring. Any engineer is eligible for induction if he or she has graduated from an ABET-accredited engineering program or holds a license as a Professional Engineer. Students enrolled in ABET-accredited engineering degree programs are eligible if they are within two academic terms of graduation. Please note that inductees must register by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30.

Registration Fee: $25 for induction (no fee to observe the ceremony)

Younger Member Leadership Symposium

10:45 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The Younger Member Leadership Symposium (YMLS), which will be held Saturday, October 31, at the conclusion of the Annual Conference, presents an opportunity for Society members 35 years of age and under to enhance their professional and interpersonal skill sets through a variety of interactive and instructive exercises. The YMLS will show you how to “Integrate Your Engineering Skills for a Better You.”  Tentative sessions include: Transitioning from a technical professional to a management professional, how to conduct an interview, and new topics from Solange Dao, P.E., the Civil Engineer, inspirational speaker, and entrepreneur whose joint session was a hit at the YMLS in Orlando.  We will also welcome the 2009 Daniel W. Mead Prize winning author to present on “Is it ethical for a Civil Engineer to relax design standards to achieve a sustainable design?”  Younger Members will also learn about the Committee on Younger Members and resources available to individuals and Section/Branch Younger Member Groups.  Attendees will also have an opportunity to meet and network with other Younger Members from around the country, learn about Committee on Younger Members activities and resourses, compare notes on challenges/successes, and recognize the recipients of the 2009 Younger Member Awards.

Be sure to sign up for the YMLS with your Younger Member Conference registration.  If you can only be in Kansas City on Saturday, October 31, please come for the YMLS only.  Both options include lunch.  We look forward to seeing you there!
