ASCE 139th Annual Civil Engineering Conference

Welcome

A Positive Buzz Follows the End of ASCE’s 139th Annual Civil Engineering Conference

Those fortunate to attend this year’s ASCE Annual Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, are still savoring memories of the good times and great learning experiences. Building on the conference theme, Erik Peterson's provocative Opening Plenary speech focused on how civil engineers must indeed lead the way, taking responsibility for moving the nation to invest in infrastructure.

The Conference's sessions on leadership, management and industry best practices all touched on the same goal. Attendees came out in full costume to enjoy a Roaring '20s-themed GEICO-sponsored party, featuring Kansas City barbeque and swinging jazz. Closing the Conference on a high note, Ben Stein had everyone riveted as he discussed civil engineering, the economy, and life with his clever sense of humor.

Critical issues, such as sustainability, were discussed at the Industry Leaders Forum. Listen to segments from this session in a special edition of ASCE's podcast series, Insights.

The 140th Annual Civil Engineering Conference Planning Committee has already begun work on this coming year's program and it promises to be an engaging experience.
