Daniel W. Mead Symposium

This year’s Mead theme asks Younger Members the question “Should Engineers Advocate for Public Entities to Use Eminent Domain Power for Economic Development?”  The National Younger Member Mead Prize Recipient will present her paper at this session. Student members are invited to this session, and door prizes will be awarded!!!

Younger Member Leadership Symposium (YMLS)

This session will feature discussions on soft skills including public speaking, nonverbal skills, and consensus building skills (anything that isn’t technical) in application towards a successful career. Time will also be allocated for discussion of individual group activities in order to promote Younger Member activities.  Younger Member award winners will be announced during this session.

Joint Student and Younger Member Program

Join us for an interactive series of exercises aimed at improving communication skills and team building. Student Members will also be attending this event to promote the interaction of Younger Members and soon-to-be-younger members (students).

Student Member Tours

1:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Experience the stories behind the Magic by participating in the “Innovation in Action” behind-the-scenes tour, presented by The Disney Institute.  This tour highlights Walt Disney’s many accomplishments and takes you on an unforgettable journey where you can see, firsthand, how they make “magic." 

During this tour, you will learn about Walt Disney’s career and visit various locations for an up-close look at innovation.  Some of these locations will include Textile Services featuring one of the largest state-of-the-art laundry facilities in the world; Main Street featuring the “Utilidor” System-Journey beneath the Magic Kingdom® Park to visit support systems located in the “tunnel”; and finally Disney’s Central Shops where you can go backstage to the place where they create everything from parade floats to Audi-Animatronics® figures.  The tour lasts approximately three hours.  Transportation and refreshments provided. $25 per student with valid student ID.  There is a minimum of 20, and maximum of 100. Must be 16 years of age and have a valid ID.
