ASCE Foundation Financial Planning Seminar

Thursday, November 1

1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

Gather invaluable financial information and useful tips at the ASCE Foundation’s free Financial Planning Seminar.  Learn how financial planning can benefit both you and civil engineering!

Guest speaker, Janet Briaud, CFP®, is a nationally recognized expert in financial planning.  Married to a civil engineer who is an ASCE member, she is a frequent speaker at conferences and has been included on Worth Magazine’s top financial advisors list since 1994.  Since most families are concerned about how to plan for retirement, Ms. Briaud will discuss investment cycles, the psychology of markets, inflation and deflation, stock market valuations, demographic trends, and the declining dollar.  We invite you to visit her website www.briaud.com  to learn more about her.

The Seminar is offered free of charge, but space is limited, so please contact Marcia Saumweber, Director Development and Foundatin Operations, ASCE Foundation, at 703-295-6347 or msaumweber@asce.org to reserve space for you,  your spouse, and/or guest.  For more information about estate and financial planning visit the Foundation’s website at www.asce.org/foundation.

There’s No Such Thing as Engineering Ethics

Thursday, November 1

1:30-3:00 pm

Engineers vigorously promote ethical behavior in the practice of engineering.  Our focus on the application of ethics to the practice of engineering may be limiting how we conduct ourselves in business, with the public, and in leading our organizations.  This presentation will explore the need for education in engineering ethics, present a model for developing “moral intelligence,” and provide opportunities for personal examination of each participant’s ethical decision making process.

Registration Fee: $25

Order of the Engineer Ceremony

Thursday, November 1

5:00 – 5:30 p.m.

ASCE 2007 President William F. Marcuson III, Ph.D., P.E., Hon.M.ASCE, ASCE 2008 President David G. Mongan, P.E., F.ASCE, and ASCE Executive Director Patrick J. Natale, P.E., F.ASCE, invite you to participate in the Order of the Engineer Ceremony.  The Order of the Engineer was initiated in the United States to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer — a stainless steel ring.  Over 2,400 engineers have participated in ASCE-led Ring Ceremonies since the summer of 2003.  Participants will take the Obligation of the Engineer and receive a certificate and stainless steel ring.

(Separate ticket required for initiates) Registration fee: Induction $15; No fee to observe the ceremony
