ASCE Business Meeting

All Conference attendees are invited to attend ASCE's Annual Business Meeting. ASCE Executive Director, Patrick J. Natale, P.E., F.ASCE will report on the state of the Society and ASCE's achievements for 2007. The induction ceremony for incoming Board of Direction members will also be held. The grand finale will be ASCE's 2008 President, David G. Mongan's, P.E., F.ASCE inaugural address to the Society. David has been a member of ASCE since 1971, has served on numerous committees, task forces, and the Board of Direction. Don't miss this opportunity to get involved and see where you can assist during David's presidential year.
Following the induction will be the presentation of prestigious Society awards that honor achievement and outstanding published papers. Awards include the President's Medal, that recognizes accomplishments and contributions of eminent engineers to the profession, the Society or the public; the Norman Medal, established in 1872 to honor published work for its contribution to engineering science; and the Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prizes, that recognize younger members for their research accomplishments. Join us and be inspired by the champions among us.

An important opportunity for Section and Branch Presidents to meet together, the Council of Presidents will provide information and discussion on various topics; ASCE Strategic Planning: Aligning National, Regions, Sections, and Branches; Sustainability Guidelines for Sections and Branches; "Raising the Bar" and Changing Licensing Laws in the 50 States; Helping Congress Raise the Grades on Infrastructure; Putting the "Drive" in Your State Capitol Day "Drive-In," Overview of the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) and a review of new SEI activities; Who, What, When, Where & Why: How to Get Better News Coverage of Civil Engineering; Liquid Assets: Taking ASCE's Report Card to the Next Level; and FY07 Progress Report -- Implementing ASCE Policy 465. Roundtable discussions allow for questions to be addressed and best practices to be shared, extending your ASCE knowledge and supporting you in your leadership role.

Fifth Annual Community Service Event - Rebuilding Together
Let’s Make a Difference in Orlando!

The ASCE Committee on Volunteer Community Service and Rebuilding Together® of Central Florida, an organization devoted to revitalizing houses for low-income homeowners, invite you to spend a day of community service while attending the conference.
This year we will be working with the Frontline Outreach Center to make a difference for youth in Orlando. Our goal is to improve the functionality and appearance of the center. Potential volunteer projects include rehabilitating their exterior parking area by performing a traffic flow study, striping the lot, pulling back the edge of the parking to proper setbacks, constructing a trash dumpster enclosure, improving landscaping, and interior painting and projects.
The Frontline Outreach Center, a non-profit facility, is located at 3000 C. R. Smith Street in Orlando, Florida and serves children and families with pre-school programs, after-school programs, family education, and recreation.
