Notes from the Technical Chair:

Thank you for your participation in the 11th Multidisciplinary Conference on Sinkholes & Engineering & Environmental Impacts of Karst. There are a few items that we would like you to take notice of in the preparation of your final paper submissions:

  • Permission from facility owner: The instructions have a section titled permissions that deals with copyright issues. However, please make certain that you have obtained permission(s) to present from the responsible owning authority of the featured project. We have had situations in the past where people have not been able to present because the owner objects after they find out at a later date.
  • Commercialization: Commercialization in the form of touting a firm, company or product is unacceptable and will not be allowed in the final version of the papers.
  • Final papers are due by Tuesday, June 3, 2008.

There are a few items that we would like you to take notice of in the preparation of your draft and final paper submissions:

  1. Manuscript Preparation for Conference Proceedings Online Submission Method, please follow the web page http://www.geoinstitute.org/publications.cfm and review the section on Geotechnical Special Publications Guidelines (GSP).

          Please use the following GSP guidelines in preparing your paper.  GSP guidelines 

          must be followed for your paper to be published in the proceedings!

Please note that the following deadlines will be enforced:

  • Draft paper submission:                                             Wednesday, March 19, 2008
  • Reviews and recommendation to authors:                          Thursday, May 1, 2008
  • Final paper and deposit due date:                                        Tuesday, June 3, 2008

Paper Format Information:

Length.  Papers should be 6-10 pages, including all text, graphics, and appendices.

Point size and font.  Use 12 point type for text, captions, and author contact information. For type within figures or tables, the 12 point size is preferred. We recommend selecting a serif text font such as Times Roman. Italics, bold, and bold italics may be used; we recommend sticking to one “family” of typefaces.  Arial types of font tend to convert improperly.

 

Note:  Do not upload Word 2007 documents for your draft or final paper submission.  This will cause your conversion to fail.

Prerequisites:

    • Online Account
    • Approved Abstract
    • Permission to reproduce previously published materials
    • Final Paper (please check the page limit)
    • If the Final paper document size is greater than 20 MB, please contact ssingletary@asce.org
  1. You will be redirected to http://www.cconnect.org
  2. Sign in, Online ID -> is your email address, Passcode -> was sent during abstract submission, click on forgot passcode to email the passcode to your email address
  3. Select the KARST08 Conference from the list
  4. Select the author role from the list
  5. Please select the abstract from the list of submissions
  6. Click edit author list to make changes to associated authors for the submission
  7. Click upload draft paper to start the upload process
  8. Read and Accept the notes from Technical Chair to proceed
  9. Read and Accept the CTA (Copyright Transfer Agreement) to proceed
  10. Read and Accept the Permission (complete the table if required) section to proceed
  11. Provide the Title of the Final paper document you will upload and press continue
  12. Upload the Final paper document from your desktop by selecting browse and press continue
  13. The conversion status is displayed, select the links to the check the documents, if the conversion process is unsuccessful contact ssingletary@asce.org
  14. Review and Accept the converted document to proceed, technical difficulties contact ssingletary@asce.org
  15. Click on the submission listing link to return to the list of submissions
