A 29-year Bechtel Corporation veteran, Ed Richardson provides leadership in developing technical and management talent, improving work processes, establishing standards and best practices, nurturing technical innovation and establishing Bechtel as a leader in engineering.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Richardson has had an illustrious career with Bechtel Corporation as President of Bechtel Civil Company and Executive Vice President of Bechtel Systems & Infrastructure, Inc., organizations responsible for major civil infrastructure projects for customers worldwide, as well as government projects in North America. Previously, Mr. Richardson held positions as President of Bechtel Infrastructure Corporation (Binfra), and President of Bechtel Nevada Corporation, where he led the performance-based management contract for the Nevada Test Site. Prior to 1995, he served as Senior Vice President and Manager of Operations for Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), and as Manager of Engineering for the Gaithersburg Regional Office (GARO), where he managed engineering design for all of Bechtel’s business lines east of the Mississippi, and power work in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. On joining Bechtel in 1977, Mr. Richardson served in Bechtel’s Power Division, responsible for technical direction; staffing and support of power projects; chemical projects; waste-to-energy and space projects. Also, his tenure in the Power Division took him to the Vogtle Electric Generation Station, Units 1 and 2, located in Augusta, GA as the Project Engineering Manager responsible for management of a two-unit nuclear station.
Before joining Bechtel, Mr. Richardson worked for United Engineers and Constructors in Philadelphia, PA. He served in the United States Navy as a Nuclear Officer in Submarine Force, in various nuclear engineering management positions in three nuclear submarines. He conducted a two-year shipyard overhaul and directed turnover, startup testing, and operation for all NSSS and Balance of Plant Systems..
Mr. Richardson holds a BS degree in Naval Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy; a MSA in Management Engineering from George Washington University; and a MS in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic Institute. He is a Professional Registered Engineer in 16 states, as well as the District of Columbia. Mr. Richardson serves on the Engineering Advisory Board for the University of California, Berkeley; the Engineering Board for California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; Chairman of the Board for the Civil Engineering Foundation for Innovation (CEFI); and is a member of the mentoring program for ACE (career directions for students in Architecture, Construction and Engineering)..
Mr. Richardson and his wife, Betsy, have two daughters and one son, and reside in Orinda, CA.
