Fiscal 2005 was another excellent financial year for the Society…
The Society’s total membership as of September 30, 2005, stands at 139,107 individuals, up 1,440 from 2004. This increase once again demonstrates growth from the previous year and continues the Society’s upward trend. New member initiatives are constantly founded on the basis of retaining and attracting new members. Member retention remains above 90 percent, a success achieved by the Society’s continued efforts to effectively communicate member value.

In 2005, Government Relations moved into the gleaming new offices located in Washington, D.C., across from the U.S. Capitol. This location gives the Society easy access to policymakers and has increased our visibility in legislative and regulatory efforts. Our staff made more than 100 visits to Hill offices for personal meetings, and we hosted members of Congress and coalition partners in the beautiful convenient space.

The Foundation’s mission is to generate resources for the civil engineering profession and manage its own assets, including the property housing ASCE headquarters. The Foundation continues to realize these goals by raising nearly $15 million since its inception in 1992 to support the programs of ASCE and its affiliates. The resources generated allowed ASCE, CERF, and the Institutes to provide programs at a lower cost to ASCE members. The Foundation raised $1,104.893, surpassing its fundraising goals by 113 percent. The Foundation provided educational programs to ASCE members on such subjects as estate planning. Proceeds from its Annual Appeal help underwrite these efforts.
