In response to the catastrophic I-35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis, ASCE is playing a significant and proactive role in providing authoritative information and technical expertise to the public on our nation's infrastructure crisis. The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the failure to determine the cause of the collapse.
ASCE has assessed the state of our nation's infrastructure through the Report Card for America's Infrastructure and calls for public policy action to make our country safer and sustainable for future generations. ASCE's Infrastructure Action Plan spells out steps the U.S. Congress should take to shore up our infrastructure. ASCE has worked closely with Senators and their staffs in strong support of the National Infrastructure Improvement Act, S. 775, which was recently approved by the Senate. ASCE will provide further resources and information related to the Minneapolis bridge collapse on this Web page.
ASCE and the civil engineering profession continue to play a key role in understanding and responding to natural and man-made disasters and in improving the state of our nation’s infrastructure.
